For ten years now, the tiny town of Gardner has hosted “Hippie Days.” What’s that? A two day meeting of the minds, or as the organizers like to call it:
“A NO BAD VIBES Music Festival.”
For the past two years we haven’t been able to attend. Last year we were moving the end of July, but this year we finally made it!
Here’s the first, and one of the coolest things we saw! This 1961 VW van was on the way to the junk yard when these folks picked it up for $113. It was stripped down, but they now tow it around with a water bed in the back. How cool is that?
We still have one of the original hippie communities in our county, and some of the residents have lived there most of their lives.
No more “Hippie Days” happened after this one…
I believe the Hippie Thing is one of those “You Had to Be There” Things. It was great fun. I noticed there were a lot of folks my age who showed up. IThe VW gives me a good idea. I never thought of towing one. Hahaha. Life is full of fun events.

I was a hippie and it brought back memories to see those pictures. It was so long ago that I have forgotten so much of those days. Was there the smell of pot wafting through the air? Now that it’s legal in Colorado, I would be surprised if there wasn’t. 🙂

I saw people getting high , but so what? It’s so common here now… The dominant smell was patchouli more than drugs. It was mostly an older, “no bad vibes” crowd, so I could definitely relate to that!

How awesome, my husband would get a kick out of that. Something to add to the bucket list, and beautiful pictures as always.

Yes Rena, quite an unusual event.. and it’s been going on a long time so I guess it appeals to some. It’s always the last weekend in July I believe.

Hi Laura Lee! How fun is that? I never really consider myself a hippie either….I think we are both near the same age. So yeah, I was a little young it fit it officially. And I can still hear my Dad fussing about those G-D hippies! hahaha. If I lived close I would go to it every year. It’s never to late to be what we once could have been! ~Kathy
