I saw an interesting exchange of ideas on Meet the Press this past Sunday. One speaker I found most outstanding was Isabel Wilkerson, the author of “The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration.”
What a wise, informative, and well-spoken woman! I found this discussion interesting on a lot of different levels, but I could personally relate to it in terms of our own recent ‘migration’ out of the city…

Another part of the conversation I enjoyed was with the author of
I read The Warmth of Other Suns a few years ago and have retained so much of it. I love it! I’ll have to check out Hillbilly Elegy. Thanks. 🙂

These are fantastic points. I’ve been thinking about this topic quite a bit since the election, when reality hit that my quiet suburban area is so vastly different in terms of our points of view. There’s so much more to us than where we come from. And frankly, for that I am very grateful.

Show me one person who does not want the best for their family and their world. Of course these desires can get warped by misinformation and abusive upbringing, but underneath it all most of us simply want to be good people.

My sister lives in Hotchkiss, Colorado an hour from Grand Junction, I’ve been out there several times. It’s a beautiful community and everyone is friendly. I live in Los Angeles. There are a lot of cool, laid back people where she lives and I’m sure others who are not. It’s that way everywhere, no matter what environment you live in. I walked into a micro brewery there and thought I was in a punk bar in Hollywood.
